About me

I am a researcher and PhD student at the Helsinki Lab of Interdisciplinary Conservation Science at the Department of Geosciences and Geography at the University of Helsinki.

My current research is concentrating on leveraging the opportunities big data, such as social media and online news, could have for biodiversity conservation. Specifically, I evaluate quantitative methods from natural language processing and image recognition, adapt them to the use cases of conservation scientists and practitioners, and develop consistent workflows around them.

Topics close to my heart include also space (re-)production, the communicative powers and power relations of cartography and maps, urban social geography, and sustainable transportation.

I am also good at producing maps, with a focus on interactive web maps.
